The Best of the Forge

Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint explains why hundreds of thousands of pro-life Americans come to Washington to march in the annual March for Life.

DeMint states:

All of us as the Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action are grateful for America’s tireless community for life that continues to fight to restore common sense protections for unborn children. In the past few years, courageous policy makers who respect life have passed a record number of laws that protect women and recognize the dignity of both mother and child. Thousands of pregnancy centers across the country are providing compassionate care to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Their work empowers women with real choices through parenting pr the beautiful choice of adoption.

Liberal Dem Wishes Roe v. Wade ‘Happy Birthday’ During March for Life

A very sad phenomenon exists today, which is that the left conflates ‘women’s rights’ with killing unborn children in the womb. The two are in fact mutually exclusive, because there are no other rights without the right to life. That is true for unborn baby girls and unborn baby boys.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (R-FL), a leftist poster-child, wished Roe v. Wade a happy 41st “birthday” today because of her “commitment to protecting women’s rights.” Meanwhile, women and men, young and old, marched on the National Mall toward the Supreme Court to defend life.
Has she stopped to think of the 55 million American babies who were aborted since Roe v. Wade, who will never be able to celebrate their birthday?

Top Republican: Legalize the Illegal

According to Eyewitness News (Bakersfield, CA), “Republican leaders, including House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, of Bakersfield, are calling for the first time to give legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants living in the United States.” In an interview published late yesterday, Rep. McCarthy said it was his “personal belief I think it’ll go with legal status that will allow you to work and pay taxes.” Make no mistake, he is signaling amnesty will be part of House Republicans’ “piecemeal” immigration strategy.

Milking the Poor to Subsidize Rich Agribusiness

After a year and a half of haggling over the new farm bill, dairy policy appears to be the final sticking point. It’s a microcosm of the broader farm subsidy discussion that pits the welfare of consumers, taxpayers, and the poor against the interests of agribusiness and farm lobbies.

“Amnesty”: Let’s Define Our Terms

With the immigration reform debate heating up again on Capitol Hill, it’s essential politicians define terms accurately and truthfully for their constituents. When politicians talk about “amnesty,” “legal status,” and “path to citizenship,” what do they mean?

Some have defined amnesty, narrowly, as granting an illegal immigrant immediate citizenship with the stroke of a pen. However, amnesty can come in many different forms, and often, it is a more gradual process. In any form, it is unfair to those waiting patiently to come here legally, and it is unfair to current American citizens.
