The Best of the Forge

Dr. Craig Beyer, a practicing ophthalmologist and LASIK eye surgeon, is an innovative physician who at one time thought President Obama might bring some good ideas to the table in D.C. and voted for Mr. Obama in 2008.  Then reality set in; Dr. Beyer quickly saw how Obamacare was going to adversely affect his practice and medicine in America more generally.  He didn’t make the same mistake in the 2012 election.

When Mr. Obama was first running for office, Dr. Beyer was under the impression that he would reform Medicare physician reimbursement as part of Obamacare, making it fairer to doctors.  But instead, Obamacare changed Medicare in ways that allow the federal government and bureaucrats to micromanage doctors even more.

Barack Obama’s Hostility to Freedom of Religion and Traditional American Values

Examples of President Barack Obama’s hostility to religious freedom in America abound.  Perhaps the most prominent example of his assault on religious freedom is the Department of Health and Human Services anti-conscience mandate in Obamacare, which requires employers to provide health insurance coverage that includes abortion-inducing drugs, contraceptives, and sterilizations.  But the list goes on, and we’ve compiled just a few examples below.

Untenable Renewable Fuel Standard Portends Oil’s Rise in Domestic Energy Market

Two energy industries—one perennially vilified and the other persistently glorified—are currently hashing out their differences under the guise of an ongoing battle in Congress over pork barrel farm bills and food stamp spending.

Buoyed by a meteoric rise in supply, oil seems well positioned to outmaneuver the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and farmers’ unions supporting ethanol subsidies, as pressure to reform the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) continues to mount. Four months of bipartisan reviews conducted by Congress have created the impetus for the EPA to consider serious reform to the much maligned RFS.

Obama Plays Lip Service to Being a Nation of Laws During Amnesty Pitch

President Obama spoke Monday in support of so-called comprehensive immigration reform, which is D.C. code for an amnesty bill.  During his remarks, a young man in the crowd began yelling and telling the president to use his “power” to halt all deportations of illegal immigrants.

Email Your Representative to C0-Sponsor the Transportation Empowerment Act

The Transportation Empowerment Act (H.R. 3486) would turn back control of the federal highway program (including transit) to the states by incrementally decreasing the federal gas tax and the size of the federal program, and in turn empower the states to fund and manage their transportation programs and priorities.

Currently, American motorists and truckers pay a federal gas tax of 18.4 cents per gallon at the pump; the money is funneled into the federal Highway Trust Fund (HTF) and funneled back to the states via complex congressional formulas, and billions are diverted each year to programs that do not improve congestion or increase mobility.
