The Best of the Forge

Earlier this month, we asked you to share how Obamacare has affected you.  Please keep your stories coming; we want to hear them so that Washington hears them. So far 446 individuals have responded.

Here are just a few of the stories we received.  We found that an overarching concern is increased premiums and healthcare costs as well as uncertainty about job security and costs in the future.

Ronald Nordberg of Wyoming said:

Currently, our health coverage is place and has not changed. We continue to pray that that stays the case and the threat of Obamacare is removed. My company has made other layoffs. I was informed on my review date that I should not expect a pay increase, and the uncertainty of Obamacare and continued taxes are the reason. Mean while, my cost of living continues to increase.

From Obamacare to Amnesty, Obama’s Goals Threaten U.S Economy

Congress just completed the first phase of a difficult but crucial battle against Obamacare.  This struggle is yet unfinished, but conservatives will continue to fight against Obamacare because it will harm America as long as it remains law.  Obamacare is a fiscal nightmare for our country, which is already saddled with $17 trillion of debt.  But leftist policy ideas that threaten the economy don’t stop there.  The next big battle will be to prevent amnesty, the vehicle for which may be the Senate’s Gang of 8 bill.

Under the Affordable Care Act, entitlement spending will increase massively, growing our nation’s debt; entitlement spending is already a massive source of our debt in America which will only be exacerbated by the Affordable Care Act.  And if the nearly 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States are granted amnesty, they will become eligible for entitlements as well.  This cost will be a massive burden to the U.S. economy and the American taxpayers.

Nancy Pelosi Doesn’t Seem to Care Your Premiums Are on the Rise

Not everyone on the Left is in the same state of denial about the “success” of the Obamacare exchanges.  Some Liberal pundits and commentators have expressed their embarrassment and frustration.  Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs called the Obamacare rollout “excruciatingly embarrassing.”

But Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) 14%, House Minority Leader, seems to be optimistic about the website’s failure.

She stated the obvious Thursday that the Obamacare enrollment website “has to be improved,” but her remarks give the impression that she isn’t really phased by the website’s failure… perhaps she hasn’t spent over two weeks like other Americans trying to sign up for a plan.

Action Alert: Watch and Share “Mike Needham on Fox News”

On Wednesday, Heritage Action’s chief executive officer, Michael A. Needham explained that we are still keeping up the fight against Obamacare. Later in the day, Congress announced a plan that would reopen the government, raise the debt ceiling, but it would do nothing to stop Obamacare from harming Americans.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Promotes Defund or Delay of Obamacare

Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, remarked during an interview on the Frank Beckmann Show Wednesday that Congress cannot wait until 2017 to stop Obamacare; they should defund or delay the law to prevent further damage to the American people.

When asked whether he was “resigned to the fact that you’re going to have to let it just go forward in its current form and fall apart,” (i.e. wait until 2017 to do anything) Priebus stated:

My personal view is that I’d defund it, because it is not ready for primetime. That is not a groundbreaking comment, because Democrats have said the same thing. So I don’t think you should use taxpayer money and fund a program that we all know is half broken and not working. The employer mandate is already suspended; the small business mandate is suspended, so why dump money into something like this? At the very least defund it for now and deal with it later.
