The Best of the Forge

Bill Clinton joins the ranks of plenty of confused celebrities willing to promote Obamacare.  But really, no amount of unsolicited advice from Bill Clinton or celebrities, of all people, should convince you Obamacare is a good idea.

The Heritage Foundation rebuts Clinton’s false claims about Obamacare decreasing costs and increasing states’ flexibility. But here’s the bottom line:

Liberals didn’t abandon their belief in a government-centric scheme for health care after President Clinton’s failed effort in the 1990s. Likewise, conservatives should not now abandon their belief—based on all the implementation failures to date—that Obamacare won’t deliver for the American people. It is so unworkable that it should bedefunded and repealed.

Leftist Policies Alienate Big Labor and Mean Less Prosperity for All

Big labor unions that supported Obamacare are learning the meaning of “you reap what you sow” the hard way.  Teamsters, UNITE-HERE, and the United Food and Commercial Workers are among many unions that worked for the passage of Obamacare.  But now relations between Big Labor and President Obama have soured – and that’s putting it lightly.

Why are union members so angry?

Obamacare!  Obamacare is a threat to union members’ jobs, and it is already endangering generous health care plans that unions have negotiated for their members.  Obamacare means higher taxes, onerous regulations, oppressive mandates, and higher health care costs for unions.  Consequently, it also means fewer full-time jobs and less hours of work.

Top 6 Reasons You Can Say Goodbye to Your Privacy Thanks to Obamacare

By virtue of the fact that Obamacare is a government takeover of the health care system in America, it is obvious that the law limits our privacy.  Healthcare decisions are some of the most personal, intimate decisions we can make.  With Obamacare, large swaths of Americans won’t even be able to keep the doctor they want.

But how serious are these concerns?

With the creation of Obamacare “navigators”  and Obamacare’s insecure Data Hub these concerns are very serious.

Obama on Syria, Confident or Rash?

Days after an August 21 chemical weapons attack by the Syrian government on its own people, the Obama administration prepared to conduct missile strikes on Syria.  According to numerous reports, President Obama subsequently decided to seek congressional approval for that course of military action (sub. req’d).  After meeting with key congressional leaders Tuesday, President Obama states he is confident that Congress will approve military action against Syria, at least that is how Politico spins it:

This is not Iraq and this is not Afghanistan.  This is a limited, proportional step that will send a clear message not only to the Assad regime but also to other countries that may be interested in testing some of these international norms, that there are consequences.

While the President may maintain this perspective, the U.S. may not be able to calibrate said consequences as carefully as he suggests; in fact the exact opposite may be true.
