Murder and Media Malaise
Now into its first full month, the details of the Gosnell murder trial have horrified people all over the nation. The gruesome depictions of the countless babies, both born and still in the womb, killed by the 72-year old abortionist leave one searching the breadth of the English language for words to appropriately describe such carnage.
It’s not at all uncommon for the mainstream media to ignore stories that are inconvenient to their political spin and ideology. But rarely is a story this heinous and gut-wrenching whitewashed from the front pages and headlines of leading media outlets.
Complaints about the media will only get us so far, as Jim DeMint, President of the Heritage Foundation, recently reminded us:
“The media’s willful indifference to the trial of Kermit Gosnell is wrong. It’s time for us to take action. I urge you to take to social media—take to whatever outlet at your disposal—to call attention to these horrific crimes and stand up for those who couldn’t defend themselves.”
Outraged and concerned citizens have heeded the call and the voices of the innocent victims are finally being championed. Rep. James Lankford (R-OK) took to the House floor yesterday to deliver a short but impassioned speech on the unspeakable crimes committed by Kermit Gosnell against the women and children in his abortion horror house.
Lawmakers like Rep. Lankford are taking up the charge and speaking out in defense of life and in defense of the most innocent and vulnerable in our society. It is imperative that more in the halls of Congress join in this effort.
The best way to do that for this issue and for any issue is for Americans to remain engaged and outspoken.
