Just 3 More Signers Needed to Sink LOST

For months, conservatives have been pressuring their Senators to oppose the long-stalled Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST). As a result, there are now 31 senatorial signatures a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) indicating opposition to the consideration of LOST. Since treaties need 67 votes in the Senate to be ratified, it takes just 34 “no” votes to sink this treaty.

Below are a list of 31 Senators who have signed the letter and a list of those Republicans who have not.

The following 31 Senators have signed onto the letter:

Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ)
Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK)
Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS)
Senator David Vitter (R-LA)
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI)
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX)
Senator Jim Demint (R-SC)
Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK)
Senator John Boozman (R-AR)
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY)
Senator Jim Risch (R-ID)
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT)
Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID)
Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Senator John Barrasso (R-WY)
Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL)
Senator John Thune (R-SD)
Senator Richard Burr (R-NC)
Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA)
Senator Dan Coats (R-IN)
Senator John Hoeven (R-ND)
Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS)
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)
Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS)
Senator Dean Heller (R-NV)
Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA)
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA)
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
Senator Mike Johanns (R-NE)

In addition to these 31, Senator Johnny Isakson’s (R-GA) office has publicly stated that “he has not yet heard anything that would change his ‘No’ vote from 2007.” And Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison’s (R-TX) office confirmed she has not yet decided to support the treaty.

If we take these two at their word, it means that we need just one more Senators to oppose the treaty in order to ensure that America does not give up its sovereignty to an unaccountable U.N.-style bureaucracy based in Kingston, Jamaica.

We know that Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) will not oppose the treaty, but the following eight Republicans could be swayed against it:

Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) (202-224-3324, @KellyAyotte)
Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) (202-224-5054, @SenThadCochran)
Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) (202-224-3344, @SenBobCorker)
Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) (202-224-3424, @SenatorEnzi)
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) (202-224-5972, @GrahamBlog)
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) (202-224-2235, @SenJohnMcCain)
Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) (202-224-2854, @SenatorKirk)
Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) (202-224-3353, @RobPortman)

And since they are not officially on the letter, here is the contact information for Sens. Isakson and Hutchison:

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) (202-224-5922, @KayBaileyHutch)
Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) (202-224-3643, @SenatorIsakson)

You have done a lot already, but we need to keep up the pressure. You know what to do!
