President Obama Losing Support from the Youth

A new Harvard University poll shows that President Obama’s approval among 18 to 29 year-olds has slipped dramatically this year, down to 46% from 55%, in February. College students, who were instrumental in getting the President elected in 2008, gave him a 60% approval rating in February, but that number has now fallen to 48%. By a more than 4-1 ratio, these same young Americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction, which is roughly the same as the national average (81%)

This is not a good sign for the President, who, in recent months, has been touting his “achievements” for this age group. One of which was to force insurance companies to include “children” on their parent’s healthcare plans until the age of 26. This, of course, drove up the price for insurance premiums; but hey, now the “kids” have insurance that the rest of us are paying for.

But the President’s support continued to slip.  So in October, he tried to give the youth another freebie, in the form of reduced student loans. This of course meant creating a student loan bubble that would burst and hurt the current generation in the future, but hey, almost free college!

Even the Occupy Wall Street movement, which many on the left thought would be the left’s answer to the Tea Party and really help bolster support for President Obama, hasn’t been a boon. That same Harvard University poll found that only 1 in 5 of those polled support the movement. Thirty-three percent did not support the movement, and 66% said they weren’t even following the movement closely. Trey Grayson, director of Harvard’s Institute of Politics explains that:

“One of the problems of the Occupy protests all along has been they’re really good at diagnosing the problem, but not really coming up or talking about solutions. So that may be another reason why there is such a disconnect.”

Young people are looking for solutions just as much as anyone else in this country and they’re beginning to realize that President Obama and his party have no solutions that will rescue our economy, let alone offer them a prosperous future. Now is the time for conservatives to paint with bold, bright colors and continue offering real solutions to show not just the youth, but all Americans, which party really has the country’s best interest in mind.
