A Super Stimulus Committee?
If polls are any indication, many Americans are skeptical of last week’s debt deal. Part of the skepticism stems from the so-called Congressional “super committee.” Conservatives, including Heritage Action, are concerned the “super committee” will raise taxes, cut defense spending, punt on entitlements reform or all of the above. Yesterday, President Obama introduced a new reason to worry.
CQ.com (sub. req’d) reports “President Obama…would soon send recommendations to a newly created congressional deficit reduction panel, even as he challenged Republicans to extend an expiring payroll tax cut and jobless benefits.” The President also used his Saturday radio address to tout a federally-backed infrastructure bank.
Who is ready for a Super Stimulus Committee? Considering the results of the failed 2009 stimulus, probably not too many.
